Spine Tingling Suspense - Part 3 - AKA: My Hot Man of Marble.

Thursday was LONG! I got the phone call from the doctor to tell me about the surgery much later in the evening than I had expected. Then he was still in recovery for over an hour. So I finally got to see TLOML post op at nearly 8pm. He was in fine form for someone who'd just had major surgery on his back; pain free and cheeky.

He was even able to order a feast for dinner for the next evening...or so I thought. However, "surprise, surprise", not long after his order, a veritable feast of Hungarian Goulash, vegies, custard, ice cream, tea and orange juice arrived and were consumed with gusto.

.
Last time I was on a ward, that was NOT how a person did post-op. Where was the nausea, the pain, the drowsiness? God decided to defy that norm and replace it with a pretty spritely post-op persona
Of course, God did not make this "straight lined" man to be "normal". The doctor said that the reason why it took so long to complete the surgery was that Brendan's bones were ridiculously hard. He said that he had never encountered bones that were that hard. No worries about him suffering from osteoporosis! The doctor described them as being as hard as marble. I figured that makes him my "David"... with a beard.
Because it was so late, my plans for getting home were not going to work, so I went with the back up plan of my son, Brian. Unfortunately, he was out for the evening but after waiting all day for the surgeon to call, what would a little while longer matter?
Apparently it mattered quite a bit! By this stage, all my devices were done and dusted except for the tiniest bit of battery life left on my phone. Brian was not answering any of my contacts, not my phone call, not my facebook message, not my sms. It was getting late and the nurses were giving me that politeful "look".
Thankfully Brian finally got in touch. His event had been delayed and he wasn't able to answer calls. To the nurse's relief, I left the ward to wait for Him...but I couldn't get out!
The foyer was being mopped and the lady who was mopping did not speak much english. All I was certain of was that I wasn't going out via her clean floor! I also gathered from her that there was another way out, through Emergency.
At this, I went into a bit of a panic mode because I can easily get lost in my own house, let alone in a hospital that has been modelled after a rabbit warren. Using every ounce of courage I have, I followed her vague instructions and despite hitting a few dead ends, I finally made it out. Brian picked me up half an hour later, and got me home, exhausted (considering I had done virtually nothing all day) but very happy that TLOML was doing so well, except for a little bit of a high temperature (the "hot" part of my title). As to how that goes, you'll have to wait for the next update.
